Appetite for Destruction

So last weekend, we took a trip out to Dubois, PA for a show at the Edgewood Family Fun Center - a totally old school roller rink. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to skate during the show for fear of someone crashing into the band.
Before the show, we thought it would be a good idea to make a stop at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, PA. Jill saw the restaurant on one of those Food Network shows about eating challenges. The Pub was featured because of its contest in which a single patron must eat the massive burger of their choice within a certain time limit. They offer hamburgers ranging from a half pound to 100 pounds. Seriously. Check it out!
We opted for the 6 lb burger. Since we all shared the burger, this wasn't an official Denny's Beer Barrel Pub sanctioned challenge, but we had something to prove to ourselves. That we could gorge ourselves on 6 lbs of meat.
We all started off pretty strong, devouring 3 lbs within 15 minutes. But I think it was after everyone's second chunk that we kind of collectively hit the meat wall. It was like we were all tweaking on some sort of new meat drug. Everything was way too funny, and I felt light-headed. Near the end, I think Emi thought her face was melting.
That last one pound of meat was really rough. We were all so cocky when we started, but by the end, the ginormous burger put us in our place. This is a giant hamburger world and we're just along for the ride.
Eventually, we did finish the burger, and no one puked or died. That may have been one of the greatest meat related accomplishments of my entire life. You can see pictures our misadventure on our Flickr account.
Luckily, there was about 3 hours between the time we finished the burger and the time we played the show - which went surprisingly well considering we were all each 1.25 lbs heavier than when the day started.
Shout outs to Jim and Corinne for organizing the show and the rest of the bands we played with:
